When your concrete material like cement,aggregate and sand good enough,only water reducing type polycarboxylate superplasticizer will be ok for you.slump retention type is used to adjust concrete adaptation.it has direct influence on concrete slump retention.when your concrete material is not so good,or when you concrete slump performance is not so good,then you should add slump retention type,ratio between water reducing type and slump retention type is usually 8:2 or 7:3.

Maybe you can notice price between water reducing type polycarboxylate superplasticizer and slump retention type is same for some factories,but slump retention type price will be much higher than water reducing type.that is because for some factories,slump retention polycarboxylate superplasticizer is almost same elements as water reducing type.but for some factories,slump retention type pce has totally different elements as water reducing type.this difference shows on concrete performance is that expensive slump retention type has much higher slump retention effect.meanwhile,expensive slump retention type has almost no water reducing effect.
